- Frederick's service record (at Australia, World War I Service Records, 1914-1920 at ancestry.com) shows he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 17 August 1914 and saw service in Alexandria and Matruh (Egypt) then in France, making Captain in April 1916. After a spell in England in 1917 Frederick returned to France and was gassed in September 1918. His service ended in England in October 1919.
Frederick was awarded the Military Cross "For conspicuous bravery and gallant leadership"...during the operations on 23 August 1918 at St Martins Wood near Foucoucourt. Reported in the Supplement to the Edinburgh Gazette of 5 February 1919.

Frederick ANGEL, 31, married, advertsising solicitor, born Melbourne, was a passenger on the SS Pennland which left Southampton for the USA on 25 September 1926. Next of kin Gladys Enid Angel.

Fred (sic) aged 56, a manager, and Maude (60) of Wrays Cottage, Hookwood, Horley, Surrey, left Southampton on 4 November 1952 on the Empress of Canada bound for Quebec and Montreal. They intended to reside permanently in Canada.
Frederick, born 26 Mar 1895, a general manager, and Maude, born 11 Sep 1902, arrived at Southampton on 13 August 1957 from New York on the Queen Mary. The address they gave was 26 Drayton Court, London SW10 and their planned duration of the visit was 6 weeks. They returned to New York on the Queen Mary, leaving Southampton on 12 September. By this time, both were apparently Canadian citizens.
