April 2015 - Sally Bruce comments on the above: "... puzzled over the absence of Samuel 1795 on the 1841 census when I first started looking at family history but assumed he was perhaps away on business? However, after your email, I went back to the census for another look. On Genes Reunited, you can see the previous page. I saw the very last entry looked as if it had faded or erased. There was a name but I could not read it, unfortunately, but it might just be the explanation. Samuel senior died 1866" 1851 census: in Bloomsgrove Street, Radford, Nottinghamshire (all HANCOCK), Samuel (head, widower, 56, oil and grease agent, born Nottingham), Charlotte (daughter, 23, born Nottingham), John (son, 18, apprentice hosier, born Ison Green, Notts), James R (son, 17, frame smith, born Ison Green, Notts), William (son, 15, upholsterer, born Nottingham) and George Henry (son, 11, born Nottingham). 1861 census: in Wollaston Street, Sherwood, Nottinghamshire (all HANCOCK), Samuel (head, widower, 66, retired lace maker, born Nottingham), Charlotte (daughter, 33, born Nottingham), James R (son, 27, machine smith, born Ison Green, Notts), William (son, 25, upholsterer, master employing 1 boy, born Nottingham) and Geo H (son, 21, hosier, born Hyson Green). Also two grandchildren, Arthur P BALDWIN (10) and Charles BALDWIN (9), both born Iron Bridge, Salop.
