Notes	Janet Tidman writes (November 2010: ... married Alice Lavinia Clarke (1859-1940) on 25 April 1885 in Butley Church and they in turn had 10 children (although the first was born in 1881, and Jack may or may not have been the father). Jack was a labourer at the cement works in Waldringfield, then a bargeman still working for the cement works and when that closed down he moved to Boyton and became an agricultural labourer, probably working for the Minters. Jack and Alice, at the end of their lives, lived at the Mary Warner Almshouses, Boyton, Suffolk. 1891 census: in Cliff Road, Waldringfield, Suffolk (all recorded as STEBBING except Jesse), John (head, 26, labourer cement works, born Capel St Andrew, Suffolk), Alice (wife, 31, born Sutton, Suffolk), Jesse CLARKE (wife's son, 9, scholar, born Capel St Andrew), Selina (daughter, 5, scholar, born Waldringfield, Suffolk), Elizabeth (daughter, 1, born Waldringfield, Suffolk) and Kate (daughter, 4, born Waldringfield, Suffolk). Elizabeth and Kate are listed in the order shown. 1901 census: in Cliff Road, Waldringfield, Suffolk (all recorded as STEBBINGS except Jesse), John (36, bargeman), Alice (41), Jesse CLARK (son, 19, labourer cement works), Elizabeth (11, scholar), John (8, scholar), Retia (dau. 6, scholar) and Sophia (6). Daughter Kate appeared in 1901 as Kate STEBBINGS (13, born Waldringfield), a general domestic servant with Elizabeth A AMES (widow, 49, living on own means, born Cambridgeshire). Kate married in Q2 1909. 1911 census: at Rose Cottage, Boyton, nr Woodbridge, Suffolk (4 rooms), John Wesley STEBBING (head, 45, married, labourer on farm), Alice Levinia STEBBING (50, married 26 years, 9 children, 8 living 1 died), Jesse George CLARKE (stepson, 29, single, labourer on farm) and William James STEBBING (son, 8). Form signed John Wesley Stebbing. In an email in October 2015, Angela Capon writes: "I have just found your amazing site, John Wesley and Alice Lavinia Stebbing would be my great Grandparents, my grandmother was Selina Caroline Stebbing, born September 1885, and is their daughter, but she is not listed on the Stebbing tree page, Phosia and Reita (the twins), were her sisters." I've now found Selina - her birth registration appears in the BMD index as STEBBINGS - and have now included her in the Stebbings tree. May 2021: email from Janet Tidman: "There were two more children of this couple, who both died in infancy: - Letitia, born June 1888, died May 1889, 11 months old (according to a family story she died of a fit on her mother's lap). - Horace John, born and died in 1894, aged 2 months." Both children now included in the family. Letitia's birth registration appears at freebmd.org.uk as STEBBINGS.
