Eddie Ray Tyler, age 78, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Eddie Ray Tyler was born in Monticello on March 6, 1942 to the late William Ray Tyler and Minnie Eunice Williams Tyler. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church. He served in the Army National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; former wife, Kathy Carpenter Tyler; and sister, Ann Tyler Womack.
Before retirement, Eddie Ray owned and operated Tyler’s Barber Shop from 1969 until 2005 and drove a school bus for the Jasper County School System. He was an active participant in all aspects of the school system. He drove the school bus for the school sporting events, cooked meals for fund raisers, and was a member of the Hurricane Booster Club. He was a founding member of the local Jaycees and was instrumental in organizing and managing our first Deer Festival.
Eddie Ray served as the Mayor and City Councilman for several terms for the City of Monticello. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #50F&AM and a Shriner.
Eddie Ray’s passion was cooking for others and bringing people together.
He is survived by his children, Carol (Greg) Atkinson of Monticello, Karen Brown of Eatonton and Keith (Fi) Tyler of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Lauren Atkinson, Ansley Atkinson, Claire Cunard Harper and Glenn David Brown, III; and sister, Mary Frances Reed of Lawrenceville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at West View Cemetery. Pastor Jerry Williams and Wes Tanner will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Brad Mercer, Tony Tanner, Jon Parrish, Buddy Cain and Tom Roberts.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Baptist Church 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064; or The Retreat Nursing
