Notes	The following appeared in The Queenslander on 22 February 1873 under 'Persons advertised for': If this should meet the eye of JOHN THOMPSON, or WILLIAM COOPER, or MICHAEL MORIARTY, who arrived in Brisbane of the Ship Southern Ocean, in the year 1866 or 1867, they are earnestly requested to write home, or send their address to Thomas Minter at Morayfield, Caboolture. There is no doubt that this advertisement was placed by Thomas - Caboolture was where he was living when he married in 1872. The advert might suggest that the three men mentioned were on the same ship as Thomas when he came to Australia. September 2008: Julie Furey provided the following. "...one of my great aunts is still alive who is Charlotte Minter's daughter Joyce. Charlotte had Auntie Joyce in her early 40's and she is aged 91 now. I rang her and she gave me some information on the Minter children but the part i must tell you is that Thomas used to disappear for weeks on end then turn up and then disappear again and Elizabeth Jane would have another baby. After she had Ivy Minter she threw Thomas out of the house and know one saw or heard from him again!!" Later: "Auntie Joyce said that Elizabeth Jane Phillips became a Midwife so she could support the children." "My Auntie said that Thomas worked as a malais distiller at the sugar cane fields in northern Queensland. He also worked on boats at times." No trace of Thomas's death has been found. April 2009: Chris Horgan confirms what Julie said: no trace of Thomas Minter has been found after 1893 (when his last child was born). Chris's website (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hanhorg) contains a lot of information about Thomas and Elizabeth Jane's children. July 2009: Chris Horgan again: Thomas Minter was reported to have died during 1900 in Western Australia. This source came to me from a Margaret Wigney who is researching her fathers side (Wilson) and who had married one of the Thomas Minters daughters Susan Jane Minter. Source taken from the marriage certificate of Susan Jane. This is understandable as Thomas Minter worked on the water front and worked on ships, which explains his long absences from home and his wife (Elizabeth Jane Phillips) kicking him out after 1893 when Ivy Cecilia their last child was born.
