• Name	William Minter
Birth	Bef 1 Nov 1829	Eyke, Suffolk   [1]
  Christening	1 Nov 1829	Eyke, Suffolk   [2]
  Gender	Male
  _UID	4519E80A591649C1A36A3CE85D8B5DBDFC34
  Death	4 Jan 1908	West Firle, Sussex   [3, 4]
Notes	When his children were baptised in 1852 and 1853 William was a carpenter. When his son was baptised in 1855 the bapismal record was noted 'carpenter Thatford le Bow'; in 1860 his daughter's baptismal entry was noted 'carpenter Alderton'. 1861 census: in Bawdsey Road, Alderton, Suffolk, William (31, carpenter), Sarah (29, carpenter's wife), Matilda (7, scholar), William (5, scholar), Robert (3) and Elizabeth (1). 1871 census: in Dock Road, West Firle, Sussex, William (41, carpenter), Sarah (39), William (15, butcher boy), Robert (13, scholar), Elizabeth (11), Arthur (9, scholar) and Henry George (6). 1881 census: in Dock Road, West Firle, Sussex, William (51, journeyman carpenter), Sarah (49), Henry George (16, journeyman painter) and Ernest E (5, scholar). 1891 census: at 15 Firle Street, West Firle, Sussex, William (61, journeyman carpenter), Sarah (59), Ernest E (15, no occupation) and grand-daughter Ethel M (3, born Hoxton, London). 1901 census: at The Dock, West Firle, William (now a widower, 71, house carpenter), Ernest E (25, carpenter), daughter-in-law (Ernest's wife) Mary E Minter (married, 37, born West Firle) and grand-daughter Ethel M (13, born Hoxton, London). Ethel was probably registered in Q2 1888 at Shoreditch (1c/60) and since she was living with them it seems safe to assume that her parents were Ernest and Mary. NO!! - in January 2015 email correspondence with Ethel's granddaughter reveals that Ethel was in fact the daughter of William Minter (Ernest's brother) and Sarah STEEL. I have now changed my records. Ethel (24, single, a useful help, born Hoxton, Middlesex) appears in the 1911 census, living at Woodside Green, Bishops Stortford, Herts. Graham Minter, March 2012: "William died in West Firle, Sussex, on 4 January 1908 at the age of 78. The death certificate describes his occupation as "estate carpenter" and the cause of death as "senile decay, cerebral haemorrhage, convulsive seizure, coma"."
