    • 1881 census: aged 8 and referred to as Louie Emily, Louie was a scholar at the District Infant Orphan Asylum at Wanstead, Essex. The census page is indexed by Ancestry as Louise Emily McDonald.

      In 1901 at age 28 she was unmarried and lived with her mother in Herne Bay, apparently without employment.

      COWDY Louise Emily of 22 Park-avenue Worthing (wife of Samuel James Cowdy) died 2 May 1951 at Worthing Hospital Worthing Administration Lewes 8 February to the said Samuel James Cowdy retired congegational minister. Effects £136 7s 5d.

      November 2011: Louie's granddaughter-in-law Rosemary Cowdy writes:
      Louisa travelled to India and married Samuel James Cowdy out there where they became missionaries (I have a copy of their marriage in 1902 as reported in the local paper!) ... I never met either of them. Louisa was always very proud of her Scottish ancestry apparently, not speaking to opposing clan members!! Her health wasn't too good in India and they soon returned, my father-in-law being born in 1908.
