      Kelly's Post Office Directory Home Counties 1852, lists W D Minter, grocer, Brightlingsea, Colchester.

      Appeared in Kelly's Directory 1855 as W D Minter, grocer & tea merchant, Brightlingsea.

      1861 census: in High Street, Brightlingsea, William (50, grocer & draper, employing one man), Rhoda (56), Mary Ann (18, assistant), Eleanor (15, scholar) and Samuel (11, scholar). Daughter Rhoda (23) was a draper's assistant in Silver Street, Ilminster, Somerset.

      25 April 1867 Effects under £300. The Will of William Daniel Minter late of Brightlingsea in the County of Essex Grocer deceased who died 11 March 1867 at Brightlingsea aforesaid was proved at Ipswich by the oath of Rhoda Minter of Brightlingsea aforesaid Widow the Relict one of the Executors.

      1871 census: at the Post Office, High Street, Brightlingsea, Rhoda (63, widow, postmistress), Eleanor (24, assistant in post office) and Samuel (21, shipwright).

      1881 census: at the Post Office, High Street, Brightlingsea, Rhoda (73, widow, sub-postmistress), son-in-law William F PATTISON (32, sailmaker and ship's chandler employing 2 men), granddaughters Rhoda N PATTISON (5, scholar) and Eva PATTISON (1) plus a female domestic servant. William PATTISON's wife Eleanor (35) was staying with her sister Elizabeth, her husband Henry MEDCALF and their family in High Street, Balshaw, Cambridgeshire.

      1891 census: in Queen Street, Brightlingsea, Rhoda (83, widow, retired postmistress), son-in-law George RICHES (52, joiner) and his wife (Rhoda's daughter) Rhoda RICHES (53) and their son Arthur (18, butcher). Rhoda senior's birthplace was given as Great Bromley, Essex.
