Norman, born 16 Feb 1897 was admitted to King Edward VI Grammar School, Bury St Edmunds in 1906 and stayed until 1915.
Papers relating to Norman's WW1 service are at Ancestry, British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920. He was nearly 19 when he joined, a draper's clerk.
Listed in the British Postal Service Appointment Books, 1737-1969 at Ancestry.co.uk in 1917 as Norman P Vincer Minter, cert wireless operator.
familysearch.org (July 2014) has a ship's manifest showing N Vincer-Minter, 1st W/T/O (?wireless telegraph operator), a member of the crew of the 'Leitrim', which arrived in Wellington NZ on 20 October 1920. A second record covers Norman's departure from Wellington on the same vessel.

March 2009: Philip Cadman, by email, writes that N P Vincer Minter was a contributor to 'The Wireless World' in the 1920s. Philip is interested in vintage radio and electronics, not only in terms of the equipment and techniques employed, but also in the contributors to early radio and electronics periodicals.
September 2010: further from Philip Cadman:
"I've found out that I was correct in thinking he was the author of the monthly column 'Unbiased' in Wireless World. He used the pen-name 'Free Grid'.

On March 11th 1964, very suddenly, at 28 Kingston Lane, Teddington, Middlesex, NORMAN PRESTON VINCER-MINTER ("FREE-GRID") of the Wireless World, aged 67, only son of the late Rev. J Vincer-Minter, faithful beloved husband to Dorothy. Cremation Tuesday March 17th at 2 pm, South-West Middlesex Crematorium, Hounslow Road, Hanworth, Feltham. Flowers to Paine, High Street, Teddington. Please write.
