| Notes |
- April 2010: John J Minter has found details of Edward's service record in the Chelsea Pensioers' Records at findmypast.co.uk, and has provided the following summary:
He had been a member of the West Suffolk Militia when he joined the 32nd Brigade, 12th Regiment of Foot - aged 18 - 28th of March, 1876, Bury St. Edmunds at 11.15 a.m.!! He signed as "E Minter" and he was 5ft 7" in height with a fresh complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. He was an agricultural labourer.
His Statement of Service shows a total of 6 years 318 days - in the Regular Army. He MUST be the Edward Minter in the barracks in the 1881 Census.
He served at home from March 1876 to January 1879 - where he served in the EAST INDIES from January, 1879 to March, 1880 - he was again at home from March 1880 until he finally left the Army in March 1888. His service abroad covered the SECOND AFGHAN WAR - Edward Minter was entitled to the AFGHAN WAR MEDAL -no clasps mentioned.
His next of kin was his elder sister Maria - but later his marriage to Elizabeth Haygreen on 16th October, 1881 at Bury St. Edmunds Register Office was also shown on his record, making her his NOK.
Edward's health suffered when he was abroad and he received quinine and sedatives.
His TOTAL Service in the Regulars and Reserve was shown to be 12 years, when he finally left the Army aged 30. His new address was " No. 1 Town Mead Road, Near Wandsworth Bridge, Fulham, London." I've no idea where he got that address from, nor how he became a London Malster!!
Edward was an "Out-Pensioner" - receiving his pension through the post I suppose. I wonder how much he got - and how long it lasted. No doubt those details will be at Chelsea - or under some obscure WO number at Kew.

1871 census: William (15), Edward (12) and Charlotte (10) were living with their grandparents Samuel and Mary RODWELL. Samuel was 56 and Mary, 54; both born in Wortham. A Samuel RODWELL was baptised on 2 June 1816, father James RODWELL, mother Lucy FLATMAN.
1881 census: although the birthplace is given as Diss, Norfolk, the entry for Edward Minter, 22, a private in the 12th regiment, in barracks at Bury St Edmunds St James, Suffolk probably refers to this Edward.

Form signed Elizabeth Minter.
Elizabeth's husband not found but was in the 1911 Electoral Roll.
1911, 1913 Electoral Rolls for Wandsworth, London include Edward Minter at 62 Point Pleasant, Wandsworth.
1921 census: it's thought that the following entry refers to this Edward Minter even though the age doesn't tally and marital stuas is shown as 'single' - Edward's wife died in 1913:
At the Royal Hospital For Incurables, West Hill, Putney, Wandsworth Borough, London, Edward MINTER (56y 1m, single, born Wortham, Suffolk, male attendant in the hospital.
