  Notes	A coachmaster of St Georges, Canterbury in 1814 and 1817. Apprenticed on 13 February 1800 as a dealer in hay and corn. Admitted a freeman of Canterbury in 1807 by apprenticeship. Elected a common councilman of Canterbury in 1813 but chose not to serve. Ran a stagecoach service between Canterbury and London in association with Miles from 1813 to 1825 and on his own account from 1825 to 1832 (Pigots Directory of Kent, 1826 - 27 - 'Coaches to London, Deal, Dover, Margate and Ramsgate from Minters Office, High Street'). Ran a coach service to London from 1832. A corn dealer with father in 1823 and 1824, also 1826 - 27 (Pigots Directory of Kent, 1826 - 27). A coal merchant of Rose Lane in 1838 (Topographical History and Directory of Canterbury - Stapleton & Co, 1838). A corn and malt factor of Northgate Lane, Canterbury in 1838 (Topographical History and Directory of Canterbury - Stapleton & Co, 1838). Listed in the Canterbury Polls of 1818, 1830, 1832, 1835, 1841 and 1848 and in East Kent Polls of 1830, 1832, 1835, 1837 and 1852. A coachmaster of Bridge Street, Canterbury in 1818. A victualler of the High Street in 1830 and 1835. Residing at St Georges Terrace, Canterbury in 1830 and 1832, at Rose Lane in 1837, at St Mary Bredin in 1841 and 1848 and at Rose Lane and Watling Street, Canterbury in 1852. A coal merchant and corn factor at Rose Lane, Canterbury in 1845 (Kelly's Post Office directory of the six Home Counties) and at 30 Watling Street, Canterbury in 1845, 1847 (appeared in the History & Directory of the County of Kent by S Bagshaw, 1847) and 1849 (listed in the South East Coast Directory (J Williams), 1849). Held lease of cherry orchard at Harbledown 1830 - 1832. 1841 census: in Rose Lane, St Mary Bredin Canterbury, Kent, John (50, corn & coal merchant), Sarah (50) and Sarah (20). Also Sarah WILDISH (11) and 2 female servants. From the London Gazette 8 June 1824: Notice is hereby given, that the Copartnership heretofore subsisting between William Miles, late of the City of Canterbury, deceased, and John Minter, of the same City, Coach-Masters and Copartners, under the name or firm of Miles and Minter, was dissolved by mutual consent of the undersigned surviving Executors of the said deceased, and the said John Minter, on the 29th day of May now last past. Dated this 2d day of Juue 1824. Abm. Dombrain. Peter Hobday. John Minter. From the London Gazette 19 December 1848: NOTICE is hereby given, that John Minter, of the city of Canterbury, Coal Merchant, hath by an indenture of release and assignment, bearing date the 18th day of December 1848, conveyed and assigned all his real and personal estates unto William Clements, of the said city of Canterbury,.Coach Proprietor, and John George Drury, of the same city, Ironmonger, as trustees, upon trust, for the benefit of all the creditors of the said John Minter; and that the said indenture was executed by the said John Minter, William Clements, and John George Drury, respectively, on the day of the date thereof, in the presence of, and their respective executions are attested by, Stephen Piummer, of the said city of Canterbury, Solicitor, and Joseph Edwin Bullin, his Clerk : and the said indenture now lies at the office of Messrs. Piummer and Son, in Burgate-street, Canterbury, for inspection and execution by the creditors of the said John Minter; and all persons having claims on the estate of the said John Minter are required to forward the same to the said Messrs. Piummer and Son; and all persons indebted to the said John Minter are required to pay the amounts due to the said Messrs. Plummer and Son, on or before the 18th day of February next.— Dated this 18th day of December 1848. 1851 census: aged 65, a widower, out of business, living at 106 Upper Seymour Street, St Pancras, London with son Edward and his family. 1861 census: aged 75, a widower, a corn factor agent, a visitor at the 'Black Horse', Longbrook Street, St Davids Exeter, Devon. England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941 (at Ancestry.co.uk, Nov 2010): 21 April 1863 Effects under £1000. The Will of John Minter late of the City of Exeter Dealer in Forage deceased who died 6 January 1863 at 1 Eldon-place in the said City was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of John Bartrum of the said City Cattle Dealer and Edward Minter of 106 Upper-Seymour-street Euston-square in the County of Middlesex Railway Clerk the Son the Executors. Tombstone at Thanington: In the vault beneath are deposited the remains of Sarah the beloved wife of John Minter of the City of Canterbury who departed this life the 21st day of September 1843 age 59 years. Also of the above named John Minter who died 6th January 1863 aged 77 years.
