    Notes
    • Baptised as George* the son of Stephen and Mary Culmer.

In January 1953 Mrs Regina Christensen of Provo, Utah wrote the first of many letters to Cliff Minter in Canterbury. Mrs Christensen had placed an advertisement (where isn't clear) to which Cliff had responded.
In her first letter Mrs Christensen said her grandfather Frederick Culmer was the son of George Frederick Culmer and Mary Minter.
      * [In this letter George Culmer is referred to as George Frederick Culmer, and he appears as such in many member trees at Ancestry].
Mrs Christensen wrote that GFC was born of 6 January 1787 in Woodnesborough, Kent, was an officer in the British navy and was killed by pirates in 1840 off the coast of Sligo, Ireland. She gave details of GFC's children and a number of other interesting pieces of information, including the statement that she had the Culmer line back to 789AD.

April 2012: email contact from GFC's 3rd great grandfather, Richard Hawke, who also has the story of GFC being killed at sea by pirates, but no additional details.

August 2012: email from Richard Hawke saying that he has added information about GFC to his tree at Ancestry at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/35528873/person/18828046836
Among the details there is a cutting from The Belfast News-Letter of Friday November 20, 1840 which records that "Mr George Culmer, chief officer of the coast-guard, Mullaghmore, was drowned on the night of the 6th inst.".
