- An addition to the family gravestone in Herne Bay Cemetery bears the following inscription:
IN/ LOVING MEMORY OF/ ALFRED SYDNEY MINTER/ DIED SEPT. 24TH 1924/ AGED 33 YEARS./ ALSO/ SYDNEY MINTER/ KILLED IN FRANCE/ MAY 18TH 1918/ AGED 19 YEARS

It's not known why the name is shown as Alfred Sydney Minter, unless the birth registration index is wrong.
Alfred evidently joined the Royal Artillery but was discharged on 17 February 1910 after 136 days service. He was judged to be "medically unfit for further service".

As Stanley Minter, Alfred made two trips to England from Canada in 1922 and 1923 (from Ancestry.com.au - UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960):
1. arrived 5 December 1922 from Quebec on the 'Empress of Britain', aged 31 a decorator.
2. on 1 May 1923 from St John, New Brunswick on the 'Empress of Britain', aged 31 a decorator.
On both occasions the UK address was 23 Mortimer St, Herne Bay, Kent.
