- John was a magistrate and in 1782 deputy mayor of Folkestone. The Kentish Gazette of 9 - 13 September 1785 reported "On Thursday last Mr John Minter was chosen Mayor of Folkestone, and Mr. Thomas Baker, Chamberlain, for the year ensuing".
Gave bond in 1787 at the marriage of Jacob Stredwich, baker of Folkestone and Eleanor Hunt of Folkestone, spinster, 24.
In 1791 promoted new turnpike road over Swingfield Minnis.
In 1803 he was living at Dover Street, a magistrate aged 66.
John's death was announced in the Kentish Gazette Friday 28 May 1819:
"Death: May 27, at his house in Dover Street, Fokestone, John Minter Esq aged 83, one of the Jurats of that town."
Monumental Inscription:
"Mary wife of John Minter one of the Jurats, died 9 May 1792 age 55 leaving 2 sons daughter, John, Richard and Jane, also here 4 sons and 2 daughters of above namely Mary, John, Jane, Michael, Michael and Bartholomew. Mary died 20 Jan 1772 age 11, others in infancy. Also above Richard died 22 Dec 1793 age 24, above John born 12 Aug 1736 (O.S.) died 26th May 1819"
