- 1891 census: living next door to John Richard Minter at 38 Heelis Street, Barnsley: James (head, 28, cabinet maker) with wife Hannah (28), and daughters Catherine (4) and Edith (1). All born in Barnsley.
John J. Minter:
James committed suicide by taking laudanam when Hannah was expecting their fourth child. An Article in the Barnsley Chronicle of 15/8/1896 showed that he was out of work for 15 months and was stalled of life. Suicide whilst of unsound mind. He died at the Beckett Hospital, Barnsley.
A copy of the Coroner's Notes made on 12 August 1896 is at Ancestry.com. The notes indicate that James died the day before, the 11th of August 1896.
