- Jim succeeded at school and gained a place at Wakefield Grammar. In later life he qualified SRN and also a registered nurse for the mentally subnormal. He trained at the Royal Berkshire and was a nurse at Borocourt Hospital, Peppard, Oxfordshire from 1939 - becoming a Senior Charge Nurse. Kitty was also a nurse at Borocourt, a hospital for the mentally handicapped. Jim and Kitty met at this hospital.
