Cliff Minter (December 2006) has found references in the St Leonards, Deal Parish Rate Books which appear to relate to Thomas as:
Churchwarden on 29 April and 21 May 1778
Overseer of the Poor on 18 June, 16 July, 20 August, 24 September, 3 December, 31 December 1778 and 28 January 1779.
A boat builder of Deal in 1784 and in 1789.
Probably the Minter of Minter & Sole, listed in Bailey's British Directory [for 1784]; or, Merchant's and Trader's Useful Companion for the year 1784 ... in 4 Volumes ... Volume 1. The Ash Family Reconstitution Files supplied by Cally Schneider in December 2012 indicate that in 1798 Thomas was in the militia at Weddington, on foot with pike. I haven't verified this.
Died a respected boatbuilder of Deal, aged 71.
Will dated 6 April 1805 proved (on the oths of Sarah Minter and Hockaday Minter) on 22 May 1813 at Canterbury Consistory Court. Recorded in Canterbury Consistory Court Act Books (PRC 22/28 1803 - 1828), folio 74 - noted by Cliff Minter February 2007.
The Will was seen by Kirkham Sidney Minter at Maidstone on 23 April 1954 (ref Consistory Court Book 68 No. 182. KS Minter made the following notes.
Will of Thomas Minter of Deal, Boatbuilder
The leasehold and personal estate and effects and part share possibility, and interest of and in any leasehold and personal estate and effects, which testator is, or shall, or may be, at the time of his decease, possessed of, interested in or entitled to, in right of his well-beloved wife, Sarah Minter, under the will of her mother, Sarah Minter [Cliff Minter has added '?Farrier'], deceased, is bequeathed to said wife, Sarah Minter, and to her executors, administrators and assigns absolutely, to whom he bequeaths also the reasonable use, wear and the dividends, interest and annual produce of all his goods, chattels, effects, &c, and all other personal estate, for the term of her natural life.
On wife's decease, testator's silver pot, marked on the handle I.N. to J.M. and one silver table spoon is to descend to his son, Thomas Minter. The rest of his plate, after his wife's decease, to be divided equally between his children:- Thomas Minter, Hockaday Minter, Ann Minter, Sarah Minter and Jane Minter.
