  Notes	Prior to marrying Alice in 1920 Richard was evidently married to Emily TOWNSEND and had at least 6 children. However, I can't find Richard's marriage to Emily, the births of some of his children or Emily's death. I found Richard and Emily in the 1901 census (see below) but not in earlier censuses or in the 1911 census. 1901 census: in Farningham Hill, Farningham, Kent (all BILSBY), Richard (head, 37, ag lab, born New Romney, Kent), Emily (wife, 29, born Deptford), Henry (son, 10, born Thames Ditton, Surrey), David (son, 8, born Sevenoaks, Kent), James (son, 6, born Sevenoaks, Kent) and Ernest (son 2, born Sevenoaks, Kent). Also Mary TOWNSEND, mother-in-law, widow, 62, born Co. Cork, Ireland). 1911 census: not found. 1921 census: at 23, King Street, Rochester, St Nicholas, Kent (all BILSBY), Richard (head, 56y 11m, married, born New Romney, Kent, bricklayers labourer with Pattenden Builder, Vicarage Road, Strood, Rochester, Kent), Alice A (wife, 59y 11m, married, born Sittingbourne, Kent), Eliza (daughter, 20y 0m, single, mother dead, born Farmingham, Kent, farm hand with Mr Whitbread, farmer, The Mount, Wainscott(?), Nr Rochester) and Rebecca (daughter, 14y 1m, born Ashford, Kent, whole time school).
