  Notes	I haven't seen the certificate for William's first marriage but I think Ann's surname was probably RAYNER. It appears on son James' birth record as RENNER, on son William's birth record as RAGRIOR and on daughter Jane's birth record as RAYNER. Later research confirmed that Ann's surname was RAYNER - see the 1861 census for her brother John. 1841 census: in Pinfold Hill, Barnsley, Yorkshire (all MALKIN, all born in Yorkshire), William (36, coal miner), Ann (30, wife), Mary (14, hurryer(?)), Joseph (9, trapper(?)), John (6), James (2) and William (6 months). I also haven't seen the certificate for William's second marriage. On daughter Elizabeth's birth record, mother's maiden name is shown as MUSGRAVE; on daughter Martha's birth record it appears as AMBY and on daughter Ellen's birth record as HAMBY. This name also appeared on the birth record of Hannah Hamby MALKIN in Q2 1856. However, it's possible that William's marriage was registered in Q2 1847: if so, his wife could have been Mary PRIESTLEY. All very uncertain but for the time being I'm assuming that William's second wife's surname was HAMBY. 1851 census: in King Well, Worsborough, Yorkshire (all MALKIN), William (head, 41, miner, born Barnsley), Mary (wife, 39, born Cawthorne, Yorks), Joseph (son, 18, miner, born Barnsley), John (son, 16, pit boy, born Barnsley), James (son, 12, pit boy, born Barnsley), Jane (7, born Barnsley), Elizabeth (daughter, 5, born Cawthorne) and Martha (daughter, 7 months, born King Well (Worsborough). 1861 census: William not found - may have died Q4 1855 (aged 50, Barnsley 9c/79). Wife Mary not found. James MALKIN (21) and Elizabeth MALKIN (16) were with their uncle, John RAYNER, at 12 Queen Street, Barnsley.
