    Notes
    • 1891 census: in Victoria Row, Stanley cum Wrenthorpe, Yorkshire (all ALLCOCK), Jos. (head, 22, coal miner, born Nottingham), Emma (wife, 20, born Gloucestershire) and Jos (son, 11 mos(?), born Notts).

Per John J Minter, Emma was murdered by her husband Joseph Allcock in 1896. The following was taken from http://www.britishexecutions.co.uk:

"In September, twenty six year old Joseph Allcock, a collier's agent, was drinking in a Nottingham pub, when he told a friend that he was heartbroken and that his wife had wronged him. He returned home, and after a quarrel he cut his wife's throat then gave himself up to the police. There was no evidence that his wife had ever been unfaithful, and it seemed that he had wrongly imagined her adultery. He was hanged by Billington and Warbrick on the 23 December 1896 in Nottingham [in Bagthorpe Gaol according to John J Minter]."

More details of this tragedy can be found in Emma Rock's Notes.

After the death of their parents, the two surving sons went to live with John & Mary SMITH. I haven't managed to work out who John and Mary Ann Smith were but I'd guess there was a link with Ann Smith, John Rock's wife.

1901 census: in Sutton Road, Hucknall under Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, John SMITH (head, 48, coal miner, born Dean Forest, Glos.), Mary A SMITH (wife, 41, born Basford, Notts), Alfred J MORGAN (adopted son, 15, coal miner, born Monmouth), Joseph ALCOCK (nephew, 10, born Basford, Notts) and George H ALCOCK (nephew, 9, born Wakefield, Yorks).

1911 census: at Stone Row, Sutton Road, Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire (4 rooms), John SMITH (head, 59, hewer, coal mining, born Coleford, Glos.), Mary Ann SMITH (wife, 55, married 33 years, 1 child living, born Basford, Notts), Joseph ALLCOCK (nephew, 20, motor driver, cola mining, born Basford, Notts) and George Henry ALLCOCK (nephew, 19, pony driver, coal mining, born Wakefield, Yorks).
