- Email contact with Alice, June 2011.
Alice died in 2019. The following appeared at www.legacy.com:
Our remarkable mother, Alice, passed away July 24, 2019, two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Born August 8, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Harry L. and Hilda P. Engle. Alice proudly graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lawrence College in 1942 where she met the love of her life, Benjamin Seaborne. During the war she worked for the US Public Health Service as a record analyst. Married in 1946, Alice and Ben had two children, Scott and Lynn, and were blessed with nearly 62 happy and rewarding years of marriage before Ben's death in 2007. They resided in Appleton for many years, and after an early retirement, adored life at their lake home near Gresham, WI and eventually Scottsdale, AZ. As a couple, they joyously shared common interests such as travel, birding, art and photography. Alice supported the Appleton community in the areas of mental health, cancer prevention, nature education for school children and also served on the board of Peabody Manor.
Alice was a wonderful mother. Nothing mattered more to her than the welfare of her family. Her inquisitive nature and life-long learning brought her to the world of the Internet and computer skills that enriched our lives. In her eighties and nineties, she planned trips, shared interesting articles, managed her financial affairs, kept in touch via Skype and did extensive research on family ancestry into her final year. Her political passion (or obsession) kept her engaged with local, state and federal politicians. She never missed voting in an election. As a centenarian, she outlived many of her peers and witnessed immense change, yet she maintained interest in what was new and all that went on in the lives of her family and the world. She remained sharp and decisive to the end.
Alice is survived, and will be missed, by son Scott Seaborne (Betty); Neenah, daughter Lynn Swift (Michael); MN. ; six grandchildren Lisa (Chris) Holinbeck, Neenah; Chris Seaborne, Appleton; Tricia Kero (Sean-fiancé), AZ; Leah Swift, CO; Mark Swift, MN.; Peter Swift (Ellen), MN.; six great grandchildren, sister-in-law Esther K. Seaborne, IL.
Later this year there will be a private family gathering to celebrate Alice's life and share the memories we will hold dear.
