Both born in Hampshire. British Postal Service Appointment Books, 1737-1969 (at Ancestry.com): George DANCE appointed as a "Messenger from Newbury to High Clere if qualified on the recommendation of Philip Pusey Esq M.P.". 1851 census: in Highclere Street, Highclere, Hampshire (all DANCE), George (head, 39, postman, born Highclere, Hampshire), Susanna (wife, 40, born East Woodhay, Hampshire), Emily (daughter, 9, scholar, born Highclere, Hampshire), John (son, 7, scholar, born Highclere, Hampshire), Ann (daughter, 4, at home, born Highclere, Hampshire) and George (son, 2, at home, born Highclere, Hampshire). 1861 census: in Greenham, Berkshire (all DANCE), George (head, 50, gardener, born Highclere, Hampshire), Susannah (wife, 51, born East Woodhay, Hampshire), John (son, 17, labourer, born Highclere, Hampshire), Ann (daughter, 14, scholar, born Highclere, Hampshire), George (son, 11, scholar, born Highclere, Hampshire) and Caroline (daughter, 9, scholar, born Highclere, Hampshire). 1871 census: at 10 Trafalgar Place, Newbury, Berkshire (both DANCE), George (head, 60, general labourer, born Highclere, Hampshire) and Susannah (wife, 60, born East Woodhay, Hampshire). George died in 1873. 1881 census: at 11 Enfield Road, Hornsey, Middlesex, Susan DANCE (widow, 70, born Eastwood, Hampshire), living with William CHILDER (50, engine driver) and his wife Eliza CHILDER (60, dressmaker), both from Cambridgeshire. 1891 census: although her birthplace was shown as Tilehurst, Berks, the entry for Susannah DANCE (widow, 80), an inmate of the Bradfield, Berks, Workhouse, probably refers. The death of a Susannah DANCE was registered at Bradfield RD in Q2 1894. Although the age is shown as 78, the registration was probably of the Susannah who was in the Bradfield Workhouse at the time of the 1891 census.
