1841 census: in Buxton Road, Congleton, Cheshire (all HOGG, all born in county except Henry), Henry (53, silk throwster), Charlotte (40), Sarah (5), Mary (5), Edward (3), Henry (2) and Capel (2 months). Also female servants Mary SLACK (25) and Helen HENSHALL (19).
1851 census (1): at Davenshaw House, Buglawton, Cheshire (all HOGG), Henry (head, 62, mayor, magistrate, alderman & silk throwster employing 180 females and 37 males, born Painswick, Gloucestershire), Charlotte (wife, 52, born Sandbach, Cheshire), Capal Wilson (son, 9, scholar at home, born Buglawton, Cheshire) and Herbert Octavius (son, 8, scholar at home, born Buglawton, Cheshire). Also William MASON (nephew visitor, 16, born Leintwardine, Herefordshire), Mary LOW (single, 28, governess, born Congleton, Cheshire), and 3 female house servants plus a servant's visitor.
1851 census (2): Edward Jenna (sic) HOGG (13, silk throwsters son born Buglawton, Cheshire) and Henry J H HOGG (11, silk throwsters son born Buglawton, Cheshire) were scholars at Parsonage House, Buglawton, Cheshire, with Edward WILSON (head, 64, perpetual curate of Buglawton), his wife and two daughters, his niece and several other scholars. Parsonage House was next to Davenshaw House.
1861 census: at Deavenshaw House, Buxton Road, Buglawton, Cheshire (all HOGG), Henry, Esquire (head, 72, silk throwster & County & Borough magistrate, mayor & alderman of Congleton, born Painswick, Gloucestershire), Charlotte (wife, 60, born Sandbach, Cheshire), Capel W (son, 19, clerk silk, born Buglawton, Cheshire), Sarah M (daughter, 24, born Buglawton, Cheshire) and Mary S (daughter, 24, born Buglawton, Cheshire). Also Georgina SHAW (visitor, unmarried, 38, born Great Marlow, Bucks), two housemaids, a lady's maid, a cook and a private watchman.
Henry died in 1864. He left a Will, with 3 codicils, and his effects were under £80,000 (equivalent to 7 million pounds in 2015, using the RPI as a measure of inflation).
1871 census: at Deavenshaw House, Buxton Road, Buglawton, Cheshire (all HOGG), Charlotte (head, widow, 71, silk throwster's widow, born Sandbach, Cheshire), Sarah M (daughter, unmarried, 34, born Congleton, Cheshire) and Henry J H, son, widower, 31, retired silk broker, born Congleton, Cheshire). Also 3 domestic servants.
Charlotte died in 1878, leaving a Will. Her effects were under £600.
