| Notes |
- 1841 census: Piece 470 containing the parishes of Seasalter Liberty and Whitstable is said by Ancestry.co.uk to be missing.
1851 census: Sarah at Harbour Street, aged 24, labourer's wife, with son James Richard, 1; both born Whitstable.
1861 census: at Inner Wall, Whitstable, Charles Minter (40, mariner), wife Sarah (36) and son James (12); all born Whitstable.
1871 census: at Inner Wall, Seasalter, Charles (51, mariner), wife Sarah (42). No sign of James Minter but James RIGDEN and Charlotte RIGDEN and their two children were living there, together with someone described as sister called Mary Ann STRAND (married, 44, born Whitstable). Mary Ann Strand is an interesting confusing factor: after a lot of searching I came to the conclusion that she was probably the wife of a mariner called Joseph Strand whom she married, as Mary Ann KEEM, in Q3 1844 at Blean RD. The probable explanation of how Mary Ann came to be in Charles and Sarah's house as 'sister' is that Sarah was originally Sarah KEEM. There was a marriage in Q2 1845 at Canterbury (5/121) between Sarah KEAM (with an 'a') and James RIGDEN; and a death in Q2 1848 at Blean of a James Richard RIGDEN.
1881 census: Charles (now said to be 63, a mariner) and Sarah (now said to be 54) were lodging at The Dredgers Arms, Beach Wall, Whitstable, together with Charles RIGDEN (11) and Mary Ann RIGDEN (6) described as son and daughter, plus Charlotte RIGDEN (35), described as daughter, unmarried.
1891 census: at Island Wall, Seasalter, Charles (now apparently 69, mariner), Sarah (63), Charlotte RIGDEN (daughter, 45, married), Charles RIGDEN (son, 22, mariner) and Mary A RIGDEN (daughter, 18).
Appeared in the Pike's Blue Book for Canterbury and District, Herne Bay & Whitstable, 1897 - 98 as C Minter, Island Wall, Whitstable.
1901: at Lower Island, Whitstable, Charles (widower – Sarah died in 1898 – now said to be 84!, retired mariner), James RIGDEN (married stepson, 53, mariner) Charlotte RIGDEN (daughter-in-law, 57) and Charles RIGDEN (grandson, 32, mariner).
