  Notes	1841 census: the entry in Gravesend, Kent, James (25, not born Kent) and Sarah (25) might refer to this James (except that this James was born in Kent) There is an 1851 census entry which probably refers to James: at 1 Hendon Court, Gravesend, James (35, fisherman), Sarah 31, born Canterbury) and James (8, born Gravesend). No trace of marriage. An 1861 census entry probably refers to James: James (44, born Gravesend(!), master, the 'Magnet') and James (17, born Gravesend, apprentice on the 'Magnet'). James's wife Sarah (41) and daughter Elizabeth (18) were at 2 Chapel Lane, Gravesend. The entry in the 1871 census for James Minter, 49, married, able seaman, may refer to James (although the age isn't right). He was aboard the 'Adam Smith', a 189 ton vessel registered at London and used for coal trade coasting: she was at Grimsby on 6 April 1871.
