| Notes |
- May 2013: Thomas L Minter, a grandson of Frederick Leslie, has registered at the Minter website. In 2020, while corresponding with Pat H-W*, it emerged that Thomas L Minter's grandfather (Fred Leslie Minter) was a different person altogether who was born in Erie Pennsylvania in 1863.
* Pat Harrington-Wydell, who contacted me in February 2020 and provided a lot of information. Frederick was the father of Pat's mother-in-law Mary Anne Minter Wydell. The latter is (in Feb 2020) 92 years old.
Pat has a letter from Frederick Leslie Minter's mother, Lydia, dated June 4, 1928, congratulating Anna on the birth of her daughter and complaining that she hadn’t heard from her son Freddie. The letter is from Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Baptised as Frederick Leslie son of George Robert (grocers assistant) and Lydia Amelia Minter of 55 Beulah Road.
In 1901 Frederick, aged 11 last birthday, born Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was a scholar at Reedham Asylum, a school for fatherless children in Coulsdon, Surrey.
1911 census: not found.
Frederick emigrated to America. It's not known when, but a pair of shipping records suggest that Frederick may have spent time at sea, ending up in America in 1927:
1. Frederick Minter, aged 34 of 321a Sherard Rd, Manor Park, was admitted to the Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital on 7 July 1924 suffering from pistatitis. His last ship had been the SS Westbourne from which he'd been paid off on 10 May 1924. He left the hospital, cured, on 1 August 1924.
2. On 2 May 1927, Frederick Minter, aged 37, arrived at New York from London on the 'Tuscania'. He was an extra passenger cook and had been engaged at London on 19 April 1927.
Frederick married Anna L MOELLER in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in November 1927 and had a daughter, Mary Anne, with Anna in May 1928. For reasons which haven't been established, Frederick hasn't been found in the 1930 US Census, and Anna and Mary Anne each appear in separate 1930 US census entries, as follows.
1. at 412 38 Street, Milwaukee, Anna MINTER (24, married at age 22, born Wisconsin, housekeeper for a private family). The latter was Emil STICHLOW (42) and his wife and two daughters.
2. at 1334 Oklahoma Avenue, Milwaukee, Mary Ann MINTER (1 year 11 months, born Wisconsin), living as a boarder with Otto R LYNN, his wife Clara and two children.
In 1937, Frederick Leslie's wife Anna married Clayton S SAGER. She identified herself as a widow, saying this was her second marriage and that her first husband (Frederick Leslie) had died in 1933.
I can't find Frederick Leslie Minter in the 1940 US census, nor a record of his death. Until positive evidence turns up, I'm assuming that Frederick Leslie Minter died in 1933 in the USA.
