| Notes |
- April 2016: John J Minter writes:
"The Ellison line is not easy to follow further - I do have a baptism for John - 27/12/1744 at Silkstone, Barnsley, the son of David. (The name David appears in John's family list.) I also believe John died in 1789 - aged 43, a pauper, buried St. Mary, Barnsley. But this needs a bit more work. I have not found a suitable marriage or birth for David Ellison.
I have more hope for Lydia Wadsworth who married John Ellison at St. Mary's Barnsley, 14/4/1774. I believe she was baptised 22/4/1747, Ecclesfield the daughter of Jonathan Wadsworth and Martha Hobson - who married at Ecclesfield 20/6/1731. Ecclesfield is a long way south of Barnsley, whereas Silkstone is just to the West. Before 1850 Ecclesfield, in Sheffield was the Registration District for Barnsley - which fooled a few I can tell you?!!
The folk at St. Mary, Ecclesfield - bless 'em - have put burials onto a special website - and I have found a grave containing Jonathan Wadsworth- died 1779, aged 78 plus Martha Wadsworth who died in 1769 aged 66 AND a man who could be Jonathan's dad - Jonathan Wadsworth buried 1734, aged 78!
So, Jonathan- my possible Ancestor, could have been born in 1701, - his wife and also my Ancestor Martha in 1703 - and my potential distant Ancestor Jonathan Wadsworth Senior in 1656!! All these folk are in the same grave - with a headstone.
Of course, at this distance, without proof - I'm just hopefully copying down details - with no sense of their suitability or accuracy. Still it is fun. I've put them all on my Genes Reunited site - but they are too far away from Minters to appear on yours.
The Lydia Wadsworth/Ellison I do claim died 22nd November, 1813, aged 66, a widow. She was buried at St. Mary's Barnsley on the 24th.
Back to Jonathan Wadsworth and Martha Hobson - I believe their family was -
Sarah 13/10/1732, Elizabeth 13/6/1740, Martha, 19/3/1744 LYDIA 22/4/1747, and Margaret, 29/6/1753. (Which makes Martha 50 when Margaret was born - quite possible, as my own Heylings grandmother was in her 50th year when she had her last - and 13th - child."
