  Notes	Beneficiary in father's will of 1823. A seaman of Seasalter in 1814 - 1821; a mariner of Whitstable in 1826; a labourer of Seasalter in 1831. A James Minter witnessed the marriage on 11 August 1811 between George LOTT of Whitstable and Frances TERRY of Seasalter. Frances was probably James's wife's sister. 1851 census: in Knights Lane, Whitstable, James (63, mariner), Sarah (64) and a visitor Mary Jane FIELD (5, born Whitstable) [probably their granddaughter]. Daughter Sarah Ann (20) was recorded as a visitor in High Street, Seasalter with Charles F SMITH (35, mariner), his wife Effeld (28) and daughter Elizabeth (7, born Whitstable). Effeld was one of James and Sarah's daughters. Charles and Effeld (but spelled Effield) also appear in the 1861 census. Elizabeth SMITH must have been Effeld's illegitimate daughter. Her birth certificate shows her name as Elizabeth Adelaide Kelsey (Minter not mentioned), mother Effeld Minter, no father's name, registered on 11 July 1843 by her grandmother Sarah Minter of Whitstable. 1861 census (indexed as MENTER in ancestry.com): in the Union House as paupers, James (73, sailor) and Mary (73). Mary was not James's wife's name but they appear on successive lines on the census page.
