Cliff Minter, from a tombstone at Hernehill:
This stone was erected by the afflicted parents
of John Minter of the parish of Boughton who
departed this life September 7th 1816 aged 42 years
From friends and life abruptly torn
      By a bare deep deception
Words can't express our sore distress
      For his sincere affection

The following appeared in the Kentish Gazette on Friday 13 September 1816:
In the night of Saturday last Mr John Minter of Oversland near Boughton under Blean in a fit of despondency hanged himself to a tree in an orchard near Boughton Street.
