On Jan 26 1954, suddenly at a meeting at Queen's Gate, ARTHUR G MINTER of 11 Woodville Road, Ealing W5.
An obituary appeared in The Times (London, England), Thursday, Feb 11, 1954; pg. 8; Issue 52853:
Mr Arthur George Minter, a past president of the Incorporated Society of Auctioneers and Landed Property Agents and consultant to Messrs William Willett Ltd, died recently at the age of 78 while attending a meeting of the society.
Born at Hove in June 1875, he began his professional career at an early age and was associated all the time with the firm of William Willet, first at Hove and then in London. The firm was founded by William Willett, whose son, also William, originated the idea of summer time. The Willett motto "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might" was exemplified by Mr Minter throughout his long life. In 1920 the firm was incorporated as a private limited company and Mr Minter became the first managing director, which office he retained until his retirement in December 1950, when he became consultant to the company until his death.
He was a founder member of the Incorporated Society of Auctioneers and Landed Property Agents, and was elected to the council in 1928, the year of his chairmanship of the London branch. He was president of the society in 1935-36 and was also one of its trustees and the honorary treasurer. Until recently he was also a member of the Chartered Auctioneers' Institute. His chief interest outside the profession was tennis. He was president of the Magpie Lawn Tennis Club, Ealing, for many years. Latterly he became a keen gardener. He leaves a widow and a son.
The Times (London, England), Friday, Feb 12, 1954; pg. 10; Issue 52854 reported that "A memorial service for Mr A G Minter took place yesterday at Holy Trinity, Sloane Street. The Rev. A B Carver officiated. Among those presnt were Mrs Minter, Mr and Mrs Howard Minter (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Harcourt Found, Mr Michael Found ..... "
