| Notes |
- 1851 census: in Harnett(?) Street, Sandwich St Peter, Kent (all EWELL, all born Sandwich), Henry (head, 28, baker), Harriet M (wife, 30, baker's wife), Mary* (daughter, 10, scholar) and Richard (son, 2, scholar).
* she would be Mary Goodson Minter, Harriet's daughter.
1861 census: at the Bakers Shop in Strand Street, Sandwich St Clement, Kent (all EWELL, all born Sandwich), Henry (head, 36, baker), Mary (wife, 39), Richard (son, 11, scholar), Henry (son, 7, scholar) and William (son, 3, scholar).
Not clear what happened between 1861 and 1871 but Henry and Mary appear to have separated and Henry became a butcher:
1871 census (1): at 49 King Street, Ramsgate, Kent, Henry EWELL (head, married, 44, butcher, born Sandwich), William EWELL (son, 13, scholar, born Sandwich), Elizabeth HARPER* (housekeeper, widow, 40, born Sandwich), Frederick HARPER (son, 11, scholar, born Sandwich) and Clara HARPER (daughter, 2, born Ramsgate). Also William EVELY (24, butcher's assistant, born Sandwich).
* Elizabeth's husband George had died age 33 in Q4 1865. Frederick HARPER was George's son but Clara HARPER was illegitimate, probably the daughter of Henry EWELL and Elizabeth HARPER. In the 1881 census, Clara appeared as Clara EWELL.
1871 census (2): in Strand Street, Sandwich St Mary, Kent, Mary A EWELL (lodger, married, 48, laundress, born Sandwich).
1871 census (3): Henry Wilkinson EWELL and Richard Michael EWELL not found - they married in Q4 1874 and Q4 1876 respectively.
1881 census (1): at 49 King Street, Ramsgate, Kent, Henry EWELL (head, married, 51, butcher, born Sandwich), Clara EWELL** (daughter, 11, scholar, born Ramsgate) and Ada EWELL** (daughter, 9, scholar, born Ramsgate).
** both Clara and Ada were registered as HARPER, illegitimate daughters of Henry EWELL and Elizabeth HARPER.
1881 census (2): Mary A EWELL (married, 60, charwoman, born Sandwich) was a servant with Mary S TAYLOR at Mill Wall Place, Sandwich St Clement.
1891 cenusus (1): at 31 Thornton Road, St Lawrence, Kent (both EWELL), Henry (head, married, 65, butcher, born Sandwich) and Ada (daughter, 19, butchers shop assistant, born Ramsgate).

Henry died in 1905.
