Also a boarder, Mrs Gardner (70, widow, needle woman, born Durham). 1921 census: at 7 Francis Street, Chelsea (all CROME, all born Chelsea), Emma (mother, 47, married, charwoman at the Air Ministry, Kingsway, London), Thomas (son, 27, single, shop assistant (out of work)), Charles John (son, 21y 8m, single, porter (out of work)), Emma (daughter, 14y 11m, part time school) and Charles (grandson, 1y 7m, mother dead*). Also Lily WALTERS (cousin, 8y 7m, mother dead, whole time school) * that was probably Caroline Sarah CROME, who died in 1920. Thomas's death is probably that registered, age 51, as Thomas E CROME in Q1 1924. His widow appears to have married two years later.
