February 2014: more information about the Vaughan family added thanks to Clif Knight in Australia who sent me an email containing data he had found. The following is copied from Clif's email: Samuel Bradford Vaughan 1852 - Medway (Ship) - 15 pages Shipboard diary written on board the Medway on a voyage from London to Melbourne, 11 November, 1852 - 4 April, 1853. Notes at the back include a list of 64 letters brought by Vaughan, some of which are transcribed; a list of addresses he had been given in Melbourne and details of the goods brought with him including 2 portable houses. The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957), Friday 16 May 1879, page 4, 5 Deaths We regret to announce the death of Mr. S. B. Vaughan, whose connexion with the legal profession in Melbourne dates back for many sears. About two years ago Mr. Vaughan, then in London, was knocked do»vn by a cab and severely injured, and he never thoroughly recovered from the shock. Soon after his return to the colony symptoms of paralysis appeared, and the malady made gradual but sure progress. During the last six months Mr. Vaughan was confined to his house, and his decease, which occurred at about 8 o'clock last evening, had been expected for some days.
