- 1871 census (1): William (24, married, ship carpenter, born Luddenham, Kent) was a boarder at 18 Waterloo Place, Whitstable, Kent.
1871 census (2): wife Charlotte (34, shipwright's wife, born Hastings, Sussex), daughter Charlotte (1, born Faversham, Kent) and Thomas HOUGHTON, described as father in law but probably Charlotte's father, widower, 57, retired pawnbroker, born Ashford, Kent) were at 30 East Street, Faversham.
1881 census: at 14 High Street, Erith, Kent, William (widower, 33, shipwright &c, born Luddenham, Kent), Charlotte H (11, scholar, born Faversham), William H (9, scholar, born Faversham) and Amy H (6, scholar, born Faversham).
1891 census (indexed as MADAMA by ancestry.co.uk): at 4 Killicks Ctgs, High Street, Crayford, Kent, William (40, shipwright, born Holy Shore, Luddenham, Kent), Matilda (37, born Crayford, Kent), Ada BAYTUP (13, born Erith, Kent), Walter BAYTUP (10, scholar, born Erith, Kent), Elizabeth MADAMS (9, scholar, born Erith, Kent) and Edith M MADAMS (10 months, born Erith, Kent).

1911 census: at 29 North End Villas, Erith, Kent (6 rooms), William (head, 60, shipwright, ship builders, worker, born Ludenham, Kent), Rosina (48(?), married 5 years, no children, born Dartford, Kent) and Ralph George SEARS (step son, 14, school, born Wandsworth, Battersea).
Form signed William Madams.
I haven't been able to find a marriage between Rosina and SEARS. Son Ralph George Hockley Sears was baptised at St John, Battersea on 30 May 1901 (born 27 May 1897), his parents shown as George and Rosina Sears of 45 Cologne Road, he a clerk. In 1901 Rosina (37) and Ralph (3) lived at 45 Cologne Road, Battersea - Rosina was shown as head of household and 'M' (married) but no sign of George Sears. I haven't found Rosina in earlier censuses. For the time being it will be assumed that Rosina and George SEARS didn't marry.
