- 1851 census: living with mother and two sisters in Colchester St Giles, Essex, aged 23, shopman, born Aldham, Essex.
1861 census: at 5 Nevill ---, Frant Road, Frant, Kent, Henry (31, hatter), Ann (wife, 39). [Henry and Ann were not married at that point], Henry (son, 4, born St Marylebone, Middlesex), Emma BEACON (daur of wife by former Husbd., 14, born St Marylebone, Middlesex) and Georgiana BEACON (daur of wife by former Husbd., 10, born St Marylebone, Middlesex)
It would appear from the above that Ann was in a relationship with someone named BEACON and had two children with him but no trace of a marriage has been found (Ann described herself as a spinster when she married Henry Bateman) and there is no sign if the registration of the birth of Emma and Georgina/Georgiana. Neither has the registration of the birth of Henry Bateman Jun. been found.
