- 1901 census: John S Minter, 10, born India was living with Richard and Elizabeth Ellery and Elizabeth G Buchanan. The latter was unmarried, 53, living on her own means, and was born in Bombay, India.
Ancestry.com has a record showing that John got his first commission, as a lieutenant, on 3 September 1910, a British officer with the Indian Army (130 Baluchis).
1911 census: stationed at Ahmidnagar, Deccan, India with the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers, John Paul Surtees Minter, 2/lieutenant, age not stated, single, born Karachi, India, on the Unattached List Indian Army.
Appears in the Indian Army List of 1 Jan 1912 as a 2nd lieutenant in the 130th. King George's Own Baluchis [Jacob's Rifles].
Listed in the London Gazette 9 Jan 1917: John Paul Surtees Minter, 130th King George's Own Baluchis (Jacob's Rifles).
Listed in the London Gazette 6 Apr 1917: John Paul Surtees Minter, 130th King George's Own Baluchis (Jacob's Rifles).
The London Gazette of 1 June 1923 carried the following:
1st Battalion, 125th Napier's Rifles.

Baluchis, attd., is permitted to retain his
actg. rank .on transfer from 152nd Punjabis
while commanding a depot. 20th Mar.

1919, in so far as they relate to the relinquishment
of actg. rank by Capt. (actg.
Maj.) J.P.S.Minter, are cancelled)
No later trace found, except that an entry at ancestry24.com contains a reference to John Paul Surtees Minter in the 'Transvaal Deceased Estates Index 1855 - 1976' so he may have died in South Africa.
Further proof of the above is at the National Archives of South Africa: document ref 5415/73 suggests that JPS Minter died in 1973 and was survived by his spouse Kathleen Mary Minter.
