Ancestry.com has Frederick's service record in connection with a WW1 pension claim. It shows that Frederick, of 82 Schreiber Road, Ipswich, aged 41 years 8 months, born Boyton, a general labourer, joined the Royal Engineers on 10 August 1915. [Frederck would actually have been 48 by then]. He gave his next-of-kin as his wife Ellen of 82 Schreiber Road whom he married as Ellen Jennings, spinster, on 5 March 1892 at Falkenham, Ipswich. Two children were listed, Walter Frederick born 12 February 1902 and Edith May born 23 July 1905 but elsewhere the record shows 6 children without naming them.
Frederick served in France from 22 August 1915 to 8 May 1916 with the rank of Pioneer and was discharged on 23 June 1916 being no longer physically fit for war service. His claim to a pension was based on having flat foot but the claim was dismissed as not being the result of active service.
