Notes |
- 1871 census: not found.
1881 census: at the Medway Union Workhouse, Gillingham, Kent, William Vincer (written as 'Minter Vincer William' and indexed as VINCET William Minter by ancestry.com), aged 30, unmarried, Master of Workhouse.
William married in August 1881 but his wife, Alice Jane nee Bezer, died the following year. Roger Brook (Feb 2019) reports finding in the Bucks Herald dated 17th June 1882 two announcements. The first is a birth announcement, the second a death announcement.
"Vincer-Minter – At Stafford House, Sommerleyson-road, Brixton S.W. , on the 2nd Inst., the wife of W. Vincer-Minter, of a daughter.
Vincer-Minter – At Stafford House, Sommerleyson-road, Brixton, S.W., on the 12 inst., Alice the beloved wife of W. Vincer-Minter."
The child born on 2 June was registered at Lamberth in Q2 1882 as Mary Edith Vincer-Minter, mother's maiden name BEZER. I haven't found any other trace of her.
1891 census: at the Westminster Workhouse, William Vincer-Minter (36, widower, Master of the Workhouse).
1901 census: at 79 North Side, Battersea, London, William V (46, local government board official), Eliza (49, born Lambeth) and Mary E (18, born Brixton). Mary E was presumably William's second wife Elizabeth's daughter. She was staying with William's father in 1891.
It would appear that Mary E(dith) adopted the surname Vincer-Minter and went to South Africa where she married in 1904.
1904: Lived at Glenhurst, Clapham Common North Side.
Appears in the Post Office London County Suburbs Directory, 1908 in Clapham Common North Side, number 79, William Vincer-Minter and also as the Registrar for births & deaths for Wandsworth at 138 High Street, Wandsworth.
1911 census: at 79 Clapham Common, North side, London SW (9 rooms), William (head, 55, married, registrar of births & deaths, Somerset House, born Bucko, Winslow), Eliza (wife, 57, married 13 years, no children, born Lambeth, London), Charlotte PARTRIDGE (visitor [relative of Eliza?], 68, widow, private means, born Lambeth, London) and a female servant.
Form signed W Vincer-Minter.
Later on, lived at Lloyds Bank House, Bloxwich, Staffordshire. He was at this address when he returned from a trip to the Canary Islands on 8 April 1924 on the 'Aquila' He was then 69, a retired civil servant.
