  Notes	1841 census: in Boxted (all ELMER), John (50, ag lab), Sarah (50), John (20, ag lab), Daniel (15, ag lab), William (14, ag lab), Charles (12), Rosaminth(?) (8) and Mariah (4). "Rosaminth" is otherwise untraced: there is no Boxted baptism that fits and no death between 1814 and 1851 that matches. 1851 census: in Boxted (indexed as ELEMER by Ancestry (all ELMER), John (62, ag lab, born Boxford, Suffolk), Sarah (60, born Boxted), Charles (21, ag lab, born Boxted) and Maria (13, scholar, born Boxted). Maria is a bit of a mystery. She is shown as John and Sarah's daughter but if she was 13 in 1851 her birth year would have been 1837 or 1838, when Sarah would have been 47 or so. There's a baptism on 30 July 1837 in the Boxted register for 'Maria base born daughter of Sarah Elmer, Boxted, servant'. This probably refers to the Maria entered as John & Sarah's daughter in 1841 and 1851. I suspect Maria wasn't their daughter but was 'adopted' from a Sarah Elmer, for whom I don't have a record (perhaps she was John Elmer's sister??). Notwithstanding these reservations about Maria's parentage, I'm including her as John & Sarah's daughter for the time being. Maria married in 1857 - her marriage certificate might help but hasn't been obtained. 1861 census: in Boxted (both ELMER), John (72, ag lab, born Boxted*, Essex) and Sarah (70, born Boxted). * John's baptism not found in Boxted suggesting the 1851 entry of Boxford, Suffolk was correct. Dyer Elmer, also living in Boxted in the 1810 - 1840 period, was also born in Boxford - probably brothers. A number of public member trees confirm this (but aren't necessarily to be trusted).
