  Notes	Living with mother in 1851 and 1861. Not found in 1871 census under either Marsh or Minter. 1881 census: as Herbert Minter, aged 34, a valet in Lighty Water, St Giles in the Wood, Devon. By the time Herbert's first son was born in 1886, the switch to the surname MINTER had evidently happened. In 1889 Herbert's death was registered as Herbert MINTER. The death announcement in the North Devon Journal of 17 Oct 1889 also refers to Herbert MINTER, innkeeper. England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941 (at Ancestry.co.uk, Nov 2010): 22 November 1883 Personal Estate £205 16s 6d. Administration of the Personal Estate of Herbert Minter late of Kingscott in the Parish of St Giles-in-the-Wood in the County of Devon Innkeeper who died 4 October 1889 at Kingscott was granted at Exeter to Caroline Elizabeth Minter of Kingscott Widow the Relict.
