  Notes	June 2007: the fact that in 1851, John Minter, 24, was living in Melton, Suffolk as the son of William MAPLESTON[E] and his wife Mary MAPLESTON[E] seemed strange so I started to wonder whether this Mary was originally Mary FOREMAN, who with Matthew Minter was John's mother (according to the IGI) . Although I have been unable to find Matthew Minter's death, it would appear that: 1. Mary Minter married Samuel LONG on 2 August 1830 in Melton (IGI). 2. Samuel LONG died in Q4 1837 (Woodbridge 12/303) (BMD index). 3. Mary LONG married William MAPLESTONE in Q2 1840 (Woodbridge 12/725) (BMD index). At the time of the 1841 census, when Mary and William MAPLESTONE would have been married for 6 months or so, they were living in Melton, Suffolk with George Minter (15) and Mary Minter (14). As with all 1841 census entries there is no clue to the relationship of George and Mary to the Maplestones but it seems fairly obvious that they must have been Mary's children from her marriage to Matthew Minter (who must therefore have died around 1827, daughter Mary's birth year). To add further complexity to the story, William MAPLESTONE must have had a son called Wiliam since in 1851, in Castle Street, Woodbridge, George Minter (26, general labourer, 'visitor', born Wickham Market) was with William MAPLESTONE (32, Chelsea pensioner), his wife Catherine MAPLESTONE (27, shoe binder, born Woodbridge) (William married Catherine CADMAN in Q4 1850 (Woodbridge 12/1021)), Catherine's sister Louisa CADMAN (22, stay worker, born Woodbridge) and Catherine's mother Elizabeth CADMAN (62, nurse, born Benhall, Suffolk). I haven't been able to find Mary Minter (George's sister) in 1851 or either George or Mary in 1861.
