  Notes	1861 census: at 1 Lombard Buildings, Chelsea, George (27, bricklayer's labourer, born Suffolk 'NK'), Esther (27, born Chelsea) and Geo. J (1, born Chelsea). 1871 census (indexed by ancestry.com as MINTO and recorded as such): at Little College Street, St Luke Chelsea, London, John (labourer, 48, born Suffolk), Ester (sic) (30, born Chelsea), George (13, paper stainer, born Chelsea), Elizabeth (11, scholar, born Chelsea), Richard (7, scholar, born Chelsea), John (5, scholar, born Chelsea) and Charles (2, scholar, born Chelsea). 1881 census (1): George Minter (48, laborer, born Great Thornham, Suffolk) was discribed as a pauper, in the Chelsea Workhouse, Arthur Street, Chelsea. 1881 census (2): George John junior (qv), John (qv) and Charles, who, aged 13, appears to have been under detention, a scholar, at St John's Industrial School, Church End, Walthamstow, London. Daughter Elizabeth had married (as Sarah) in 1879. The births of George and Esther's children, apart from Charles, do not appear to have been registered. January 2025: Amanda K has found information at Ancestry.com* about George and his family in the 1880s, and writes as follows: "It looks as if George John, Esther, their younger sons Richard and Charles and their youngest daughter Emma all ended up in the workhouse. The admissions start in Jan 1881 with George John, Charles and Emma being admitted to Britten Street workhouse and they are listed as Roman Catholic. This may be why, in 1881, Charles is resident at St John's Industrial School for Roman Catholic Boys in Walthamstow and Emma, born c1870, is a scholar at St Mary's RC Orphanage, also in Walthamstow. It also looks as if Emma didn't stay at the school for very long and was "given up to her mother" in May of 1881. On the 1881 census George Minter aged 48 is a resident of the "Chelsea Workhouse" Arthur Street, born at Great Thornham Suffolk. Esther, who was baptised Esther Louisa Reeves on 1 Sep 1833 at St Luke's Chelsea, was admitted with son Richard on 8 Mar 1881 to Britten Street workhouse and discharged on 14 March at her own request. Not sure where Esther or Richard are on census day but Richard enlists in 1883 and joins the Rifle Brigade. He gives his religion as RC and lists his family as parents George & Esther, older brother George, younger brother John and 2 sisters Sarah & Emma. He is discharged on 16 Oct 1895 and dies in Chelsea Dec 1899. Richard's army records are on FindMyPast and from the workhouse records it looks as if he went from there to Hanwell Asylum. but that didn't stop him enlisting and doing well in the army.. George John Snr has quite a few workhouse entries, the last ones I can find are from 1889, he's admitted to Britten Street on 9 August and transferred to the infirmary on 30 November." * London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records, 1764 - 1921
