| Notes |
- In 1792 Anthony Minter deeded 148 acres of land, bought from the Riddles, to William Minter & William lived on this land. In Anthony's will 1812, he bequeathed land in Deep & Haw River in N C & a negro boy named Frank "which said land & negro boy were in possession of my said son, William, at the time of his decease, to them & their heirs forever". His will recorded Book c Page 77 Chatham Co., N C. May 1796. It names his wife Sally & 4 children.
The following is from Don Chamberlayne's Minter Notes:
"William Minter
William Minter, born about the mid-1750s (some say 1760), married Sarah "Sally" Ragland. His will, dated May, 1796, recorded in Chatham County, N.C., mentioned Sally and four children [per Dellinger]. Also from Dellinger, in 1792, William's father Anthony Minter, Jr. deeded to him the 148-acre parcel in the fork of the Deep and Haw Rivers (which forms the Cape Fear River), and William and his family lived on this land.
Some of the descendants of William and Sally, through their son Richard*, are actively involved in research on the family. A newsletter entitled "Minter News - the Minter Family Newsletter" (issue 5 dated November 2006), is published by Clifton F. Minter, Jr. He also is collecting issues, or pages, from the Minter-Mintor Genealogical Bulletin of the 1950s and 1960s, planning to preserve this valuable resource for the benefit of future researchers, and hopes to hear from anyone having additional pages to offer. "
August 2025: an email from Dan Culp:
"Hi- one of the executors of William Minter's will (along with Sarah Ragland Minter and William Ragland) was Joseph Johns(t)on, who is known to be a half-brother of my 6x great grandfather, Burgess Clark (their shared mother is not known).
I'm wondering if you are aware of what, if any, connection existed between William and Joseph.
Burgess Clark served his first of three tours in the Revolution as a substitute for Morgan Minter, by the way. "
I replied saying that I know nothing about Joseph Johns(t)on.
* All the information which appears here about William's son Richard Minter has been imported from Clifton Minter's tree. I have checked it as far as is possible.
