    Notes
    • Geoff Minter, August 2008: Records show her parents (James Buttenshaw and Sarah Dancey [Dengate - see below]) were farmers at Gledswood near Campbelltown. Gledswood is now an historic building with a vineyard.

Marriage announcement shows that Sarah's father had died before she married.

January 2015: Alan Buttenshaw, a descendant, has been in touch by email and wrote as follows:
"Sarah Buttenshaw jnr who married William Minter was the youngest of 8 surviving children born to James and Sarah Buttenshaw (nee Dengate) who married 1837 Newenden Kent where Sarah snr was from. James Buttenshaw was from Hastings Sussex where he was born, but as his parents died when he was a young boy, I suspect that he was raised in Winchelsea by his uncle and his grandmother (originally from Salehurst). James and Sarah came out as Bounty Assisted Immigrants in 1838 - arriving 11 Dec 1838 by the "James Pattison".

I am also descended from Sarah Dengate's younger sister, Caroline who married James Longley of Newenden Oct 1838. They sailed for Australia the same month but were shipwrecked in Jan 1839 by a hurricane at Green's Point, Table Bay - Cape of Good Hope. They eventually made it to Australia about 6 months later by another of 2 ships arriving 20 May 1839. (My grandparents were 2«sup»nd«/sup» cousins from the 2 Dengate sisters)."

Alan has also contributed the following:
"James Buttenshaw jnr cared for his mother (Sarah Buttenshaw snr nee Dengate) in her final years. She lived to 99 years and 3 months! I attach one of her Obituaries out of interest as it mentions Mrs Minter in her list of children at the end:
An Obituary Notice "Camden News" Thursday 25 May 1911.
Mrs. Sarah Buttenshaw, an old and esteemed resident of the district, passed away at the residence of her son, Mr. James Buttenshaw, Menangle on 22 April - reaching the good old age of 99 years. She was born in Newingden (sic Newenden), Kent, England, in 1812, and came to Australia some 75 years ago with her husband, Mr. James Buttenshaw who died 30 years ago. The late Mrs. Buttenshaw resided about Gledswood and the Camden district for the last 60 years, and for the last 24 years with her son James. The deceased lady lived an active life and passed through stirring scenes with a large element of danger in them. Nearly all the country on her first appearance were bush with a few scattered clearings. Convicts and the blacks were then fairly numerous and there were harrowing tragedies that required people of grit and nerve to bear. Mrs. Buttenshaw lived to see the great change the district has undergone - the transforming of wild bush land into smiling fields of corn. Peace and prosperity followed strife and a hard struggle for existence. She lived too, for 8 children, 45 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren to show her love and respect. Well might the old lady be proud of such descendants.
The following are her family: Matilda - Mrs. Warner (Newtown), Frederick (Nt. Coast), William (Fairfield), Albert (died on Molles Main some years ago), Henry (died at Wyalong, 1906), James (Edrop Estate, near Menangle), Thomas (Grenfell), Sarah - Mrs. Minter (Concord)."
