From The Herald (Melbourne, Victoria) Wed 22 Mar 1911 (at Trove):
"JUST FROM SCOTLAND.
YOUNG FARMER IN TROUBLE. -
William Harper Ross, a young Scotch farmer, who has just landed from Scotland, was charged at the Colllngwood Court to-day with having used insulting words to Constable D. Ryan.
Complainant stated that he saw defendant in Smith street last night,
slightly the worse for drink. He asked witness the way to the wharf. When told, defendant used the language complained of.
Defendant said that he had only arrived from Scotland a day or two ago,
with the intention of going on the land. He was sentenced to six hours' imprisonment."
