Heart Attack Fatal This Morning
Hugh Martin 49, (age wrong) well known, resident of the Tri-Cities since 1919, died suddenly of a heart attack at 8:40 a.m. today at Wilkie's store in Baytown about a half hour after he had taken his wife to work there.
Martin often remained at the store after bringing Mrs. Martin to work, and occasionally assisted the employees during a rush period. He was seized with an attack while talking with a customer in the store. A physician was summoned, but Martin was seized with a second and fatal attack while medical aid was being given.
He had suffered of the heart ailment for about three years and was subject to frequent serious attacks, but in recent weeks had been feeling well and his sudden death was unexpected.
Martin came to the Tri-Cities from Humble to work in the oil fields here. In 1920, he resigned from his position with the Humble production company to enter business for himself. Since that time, he operated various businesses until ill health caused his retirement a few months ago.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eula Zell Martin; two sons, Kenneth Ray Martin, Jr. and Ralph Edward Martin of Lincoln. (These were his grandsons).
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Paul U. Lee funeral home upon arrival of the son from Nebraska.
