- In 1907 John Marrington GOFF married Alice Minter, daughter of Samuel Elvin Minter of the Ridgewell Minters, thus forming a link between Brightlingsea and Ridgewell.
1911 census: at 41 Sidney Street, Brightlingsea, Essex (4 rooms), John Marrington GOFF (head, 27, married, boat-builder, worker, born Brightlingsea), Alice GOFF (wife, 25, married 3 years, 1 child, living, born Brightlingsea) and Dorothy Janet GOFF (daughter, 2, born Brightlingsea).

John was killed in WW1. The following is from the Commomwealth War Graves record:
GOFF, Cpl. John Marrington, C/83, 16th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps. 15th July, 1916. Age 32. Son of the late Capt. William Goff; husband of Alice Goff, of Mill View, Thorrington, Colchester.
His name is on the Thiepval Memorial.
