  Notes	Sue Platt has Robert's parents as James MAYALL and Betty nee FITTON. The 1826 Poll Book for Lambeth Middlesex has an entry for Robert Mayall, hatter, Tyrett Street, Lambeth. (Source Ancestry.com, UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893). This is thought to relate to Robert James MAYALL. 1841 census: in Hadderton's Yard, Newcastle Under Lyne, Staffs (all MAYALL), Robert (50, journeyman hatter), Maria (45), Emma (15), Miles (12) and Fanny (8). None born in Staffordshire. Daughter Mary Ann appears to have been staying with her aunt Mary and her husband William JOHNSON (qv). 1851 census: in Mill Lane, Sutton, Cheshire (all MAYALL), Robert (63, hatter, born Oldham, Lancashire), Maria (58, stay maker, born Maldon, Essex), Emma (24, silk piecer, born London), Miles (24, silk mill piecer, born London), Fanny (18, silk mill piecer, born London) and Charles (grandson, 10, scholar, born West Indies).
