    Notes
    • Elkin MINTER was always proud of her MINTER heritage, and took pride in
knowing as many of the 'clan' as possible. She recalled times when she was a
small child that her father, Emmitt B. MINTER, took her with him as he
circulated around the County, and she got to meet - and get to know - a lot of
kin folk. She was ambitious, and she worked and attended school until she
obtained high degrees from college. She taught school at the elementary level
      for a couple of years; taught Home Management at El Paso, Texas, for 17 years;
after which time she went to Purdue University and attended there, and became
a Home Management Specialist; and she taught that specialty until she
retired. Then later, she came out of retirement, and joined the staff at the
University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and taught Home Management for five years
before she retired last. She bought a home at Bryan, Texas, near some of her
siblings and their families. In her later years, she sold her home and moved
to a managed care high rise facility at Bryan, where she could live close to
her sister, Mrs. Doris Stewart. She passed on to the "Sweet By And By" on 26
Aug, 1996, at the age of 86, after a valiant fight with adversity that plagued
her during the last few years of her life. Sister Doris steadfastly stood by
Elkin in the last years, ministering to her and comforting her and inspiring
her, in spite of the fact that Doris was sufferring much of that time from a
grave illness, herself. Elkin will be missed by all who knew her. We say,
"Adieu, dear cousin, and until we meet again".
