    Notes
    • 1881 census: at Brickfield Cottage, Wimbledon Common (all MAYES), William C (head, 40, carpenter & joiner, born Wimbledon), Mary Ann (wife, 37, laundress, born Hammersmith, London), Caroline (daughter, 11, scholar, born Wimbledon), Charles (9, scholar, born Wimbledon), Harry (8, born Wimbledon, deaf & dumb) and Mary Jane (daughter, 1, born Wimbledon).

1891 census: at Brickfield Cottage, Wimbledon Common (all MAYES), William C (head, 50, widower, laundry man, born Wimbledon), Annie (daughter, 23, laundress, born Wimbledon, deaf & dumb from childhood), Caroline (daughter, 21, laundress, born Wimbledon), Harry (18, laundry man, born Wimbledon, deaf & dumb from childhood), Mary Jane (daughter, 11, scholar, born Wimbledon) and Caroline (mother, widow, supported by children, born Bermondsey, London).

1901 census: at 22 Beehive Buildings, Wimbledon, Harry MAYES (head, 28, laundry man, born Wimbledon, deaf & dumb), Jane MAYES (wife, 36, laundress, born Maidstone, Kent), John TAGG (stepson, 15, errand boy, born Wimbledon), Emily TAGG (stepdaughter, 11, born Wimbledon), Alfred TAGG (stepson, 9, born Wimbledon) and Rose MAYES (1, born Wimbledon).

I can't find Rose MAYES' birth registration - I don't know who her father was but it may have been Harry. Florence (Minter) could have been Rose's mother - see the 1911 census below, which indicates that she'd had two children before the census was done, presumably both with Harry. I can't find find either of them.

1911 census: at 42 Beehive Building, Wimbledon (flat, 4 rooms) (all MAYES), Harry (head, 38, married, laundry man, 'work at my father', born Wimbledon), Florence - "second wife" crossed out - (wife, 38, married 8 years, 2 children, 1 living, 1 dead, born Fulham) and Rose (daughter, 11, born Wimbledon).
Both Harry and Florence are noted as deaf and dumb.

I can't find Harry or Florence after 1911.
